Diamond Mesh Stitch

What We Learned

We reviewed the Mesh Stitch taught last class, and briefly talked about Filet Crochet. I brought an baby blanket I had made as an example. More resources have been added to the Mesh stitch page if you would like to learn more about Filet Crochet.

I brought my yarn winder to show how to create cakes. Winding yarn in cakes, it is much less likely to knot up while you are working on a project.

Diamond Mesh Stitch

The diamond mesh stitch is a variation of the basic mess stitch.  I think its even easier to learn.  We invited our beginner students that have only learned, slip stitch, chain and single crochet. That’s all you need to know!

KEY:

sk = skip

ch = chain stitch

sc = single crochet

Make a chain in a multiple of 4 + 3 ( we did 4 repeats. 19 stitches in our foundation change. . 4 x 4 + 3 = 19

Row 1: sk 1st ch, sc in next ch, *ch 5, sk 3 ch, sc in next chain*. Repeat * across to end of row. In last space sc, turn.

Row 2: sc in 5 ch space, *ch 5, sc in 5 ch space*. Repeat * across to last stitch. Sc in last sc from previous row. Ch5, turn.

Row 3: sc in 5 ch space, * ch 5, sc in 5 ch space,*. Repeat * across to end of row. Ch5, turn.

Repeat row 3 to desired length.

There are lots of variations of mesh stitch. If you like this technique and would like to try more complicated patterns, Crochet Town Youtube channel has many videos to walk you through.
