Corner to Corner Crochet Decrease

This class was part 2 of learning to make a corner to corner crochet blanket.

The first lesson, introduced the concept.  Homework was to complete enough rows so your project was 30″ across the bottom.  Completing this, the project is in the shape of a triangle.  The second lesson focused on how to decrease each side to complete a square or rectangle.

Notes....

  • Blocks (Tiles, Pixels)

    Blocks are worked exactly the same across the row.  The only difference in decreasing is you do not chain 6 at the end of each row, but slip stitch back to the 3 chain loop of the block. This forms the straight line across.

  • Decrease

    After you finish a row,  you will decrease instead of increase.

    Do not chain 6  (do not chain any), just turn your work.

  • Slip Stitches

    We will make 3 slip stitches.

    Skip the first dc, slip stitch into the next 2 dc, and the chain loop.

  • Slip Stitch (continued)

    This is the completed 3 slip stitches

  • Create New Block

    Now continue as normal creating blocks to the end of the row.

    Chain 3, and make 3 dc in the chain loop from previous block

  • Finish row

    If you are making a square, you will decrease on this side too. Follow directions above to do decrease.

    If you are making a rectangle, you will only decrease on one side, continue doing increases until you reach the length you want for the rectangle. Then you will decrease on both sides.

    Use a stitch marker to note what is your “bottom width side” (especially important if you want to make a rectangle)

Homework for Next Lesson

Work rows with  decreases at the beginning of each new row to form a square or rectangle.

Because this stitch has a nice strait edge, a borders is not necessary. A simple single crochet the whole way around will finish it off nicely.
